Welcome to the Maine College Access Network, also known as MaineCAN. MaineCAN is a community of college access professionals dedicated to postsecondary success for all Maine students. Our vision is that every Maine student has the knowledge and resources needed to attain the postsecondary education they desire, helping them contribute to the Maine economy.

Our members include nonprofits, high school staff, college outreach programs, funders, and government agencies, all of whom are committed to closing the education attainment gap in Maine.


MaineCAN's Moving Maine Forward: Best Practices in College Access Conference

This year's conference will feature keynote speaker Ben Castleman, author of Summer Melt and Assistant Professor of Education and Public Policy at the University of Virginia. Ben’s research applies insights from behavioral economics and social psychology to improve college access and success for low-income and non-traditional students. He has conducted several randomized trials to investigate innovative strategies to help students and their families navigate complex educational decisions. Ben has presented insights from his research at The White House Summit on Expanding College Opportunity and in testimony before Congress. Ben was also recently named one of the 16 most innovative people in higher education

Do you know a current college student or recent college graduate who has overcome significant barriers? If so, consider nominating them for one of MaineCAN’s Achiever Spotlight Awards. The deadline for nominations is March 17, 2017. The selected award winners will be recognized at the MaineCAN Best Practices Conference on May 18, 2017 at Eastern Maine Community College.
